What is an
Anal Fistula?

An anal fistula is a small tunnel that forms between the anal canal and its surrounding skin (sort of like an abnormal hole near the anus). It is often caused after an anal abscess or infection and can result in chronic pain and swelling around the anus.

While it is not life-threatening, an anal fistula can greatly impact a person’s quality of life. The sooner it is diagnosed and addressed, the easier it is to manage.
