Dr Tan Wah Siew
Senior Consultant Colorectal Surgeon
MBBS, MMed (Surgery), FAMS, FRCSEd
Prior to moving to private practice, Dr Tan Wah Siew was senior consultant surgeon at the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). There, she became the first female consultant colorectal surgeon and was one of the earliest female general surgeons in Singapore to undergo training in robotic colorectal surgery.
Dr Tan graduated from National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and subsequently completed her Advanced Surgical Training in General and Colorectal Surgery at SGH in 2011.
In 2013 she finished a year-long MOH-sponsored Healthcare Manpower Development Plan Fellowship (HMDP) at St. James University Hospital in Leeds, United Kingdom. While there, she received training in:
- Minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery for colorectal cancer
- Surgery for inflammatory bowel disease
- Treatment of locally advanced rectal cancers
- Recurrent pelvic cancers requiring removal of multiple organs and/or pelvic exenterations
Academic & Research Involvement
Dr Tan has published widely in multiple peer-reviewed journals. She has been a reviewer for numerous local and international journals, including the Singapore Medical Journal, British Journal of Surgery, Colorectal Disease and International Journal of Colorectal Disease.
Teaching Medical Students, Residents & Nurses
Dr Tan has always been an active participant in the teaching of medical students, surgical residents, and nurses. Her involvement includes conducting laparoscopic and endoscopic skills training courses for both international delegates and surgical residents.
